Movement for Family Power

An abolitionist movement hub and incubator, cultivating and harnessing community power to end family policing and build a world where all families can thrive.

The family policing system—or the so-called “child welfare” system—tears apart Black, Indigenous, Latine, and low-income families.

The family policing system is a troubling extension of the US’ long history of separating families: from chattel slavery, to orphan trains, to the cultural genocide of Indigenous communities. Racial disparities in the modern family policing system are a product of a white supremacist family separation regime. Today, 1 in 2 Black children will experience a family policing investigation; 1 in 10 will experience family separation; and 1 in 41 will have their parents’ rights terminated–the civil death penalty. The system isn’t broken. It was built this way.

Abolition is more than dismantling harmful systems. It is building the world we deserve.
